I want to pay my ridiculously high (and unfair) school library fine in pennies, but they won't let me.?
At school the library fined me for my book after the teacher had collected it before the winter break (our brilliant teacher forgot to turn in the books) and the fine went up a little bit each day well now (about a month later) I got a notice saying I owe about $10. So I went to pay the fine and since I was mad I got the money in pennies, took them to library and they would not accept them. In fact they told me that I had to pay using the largest bills and coins possibly to make it easier for them. Is this not legal tender issued by the U.S. ? This is Wake county schools in North Carolina if it matters. Q=try handling the situation like an adult ? A= I'm not an adult so I don't have to If pennies are not technically legal tender could I at least pay it in some other form of coinage (nickels, dimes, quarters, half dollars) ?

Try handling the situation like an adult. Life isn't fair, just pay the fine & move on with your life...

I'd give them the pennies and say they are legal tender and if you don't take them, legally you are forgiving this debt, and leave. Your teacher is responsible, why don't your parents go bitch her out?

I would tell them you either take these or you're getting nothing. I am a jack*** like that.

Regardless of the pennies status as legal tender in the US, the fact remains that the library is under no legal obligation to accept your 10.00 payment in pennies. They are well within their legal right to ask for the largest bill possible to make payment, and to continue to allow the fees to accrue while you grow up and go get a 10 dollar bill. Your beef is with your teacher, not the library.
