My sister is 23 and just got her 2nd DUI this last weekend in Sacramento County?
1st was when she was 19 and paid all fines etc. However, scared that she might go to jail. She has a job and is student, does that matter that she is employed and in school? She woke up in the hospital and doesn't know how she got there, last remembers passing out in backseat of her car. Should she get a lawyer? What should she expect?

Answer 1
Of course she needs a lawyer. That story about blacking out isn't going to help her much though. That only makes it look even worse. The fact that she's employed and in school is completely irrelevant. If she kills somebody with her recklessness and stupidity her student status won't bring them back to life.

Answer 2
They will take it into consideration yes. She can expect house arrest/ankle monitor, heavy fines, insurance premium hikes, loss of DL for up to a year, possibly some jail time w/possible work release, and at least a few weekends in jail. It could also mean real jail time if the judge sees reason to do so.

Answer 3
She got off very easy the first time, compared to many other states. I would be expecting some jail time for this one, followed up by a suspended license, probation and community service. She'll very possibly lose her job because of it. She is lucky to be alive. She is lucky she did not kill anyone.

most likely jail time...sorry

School bus ride in NC?
School bus ride in NC?
In Wake county, NC, what happens to school bus ride if 9th and10th grader's home has moved to farther place where the school bus doesn't offer it's ride? These kids don't want to transfer their schools and the new house is still in same school district county. Should I give ride to the kids to school or does the school extend its route? In this case, is it better transfer to another school?

If you move you have to inform the school district. The students will probably be reassigned based on where you live now.

you can find a program that fits your learning style and order the books online. i teach my son at home. i get the Life Pack books and they are easy to understand for the students. you can order the whole year for about $250. you can stay doing it until you are done with school if you wanted too. the only hitch is you have to order you own eog's and take them and send them off to be graded and pay for all of that. other than that it is not hard to do in nc. now while you are doing all of this your parents have to print off and send in a form to the nc non public school / homeschool to get a card back and then once they get that they have to go to the school you were in and withdraw you from there. by that time you should have your books and can start on your work from there. I live in nc too and am only about 65 miles from raleigh. homeschooling is fun don't make it harder that it is and do pull your hair out when you get your books. you have to understand every program is going to be a little different from what you were learning in public school. good luck!!!

How do I get my GED so that I can join the Marines?
How do I get my GED so that I can join the Marines?
As of right now I'm being home schooled by an SOS program. I'm getting sick and tired of using this stupid program that only tries to give you Information through the eyes of a Christian. I want to join the Marines when I turn 18, but this program is going to take longer and I'm failing everything because I just am not trying. I'm 16 years old but I was expelled from the Wake County School System over something stupid. I was actually doing straight A work, but then I got in trouble. How do I get my GED at the age of 16 in the Raleigh area of North Carolina. Also, does the Marine Corps accept GED applicants. I want to be apart of an M1 Abrams crew.

If you really serious about wanting to go in the Marines, why don't you talk to your parents about moving to another school district. Maybe they have a friend or a relative that will let you stay with them during the week so you can go to school in that District and then you wont have to do a GED Furthermore, how can you be Expelled from the Entire "School System" Every child under the age of 18 has a right to attend a free school of their parents choice in the district where they live. SO you could not have been expelled form the "Entire School System" just expelled from "That School" unless you done something really really serious like burned down the school or something.

So, you were tired of the Wake county schools and made the stupid choice to get expelled (if you were doing something that got you expelled, it was a choice you made!). Now you are tired of the SOS program. How long do you think it would take you to become tired of the Marines? If you get "expelled" from there, the consequences are greater. You really should try to work things out with Wake County to get back or try to finish your SOS courses sooner. You will regret just getting your GED.

Cary, NC- any affordable housing in the area?
I have been applying for teaching positions in the Wake County School district. This district includes Raleigh and Cary, NC. Does anyone know if there is any affordable housing in this area? I would be looking for more of a suburban setting. I wouldn't want to be more than 35 or 40 minutes from the school district. We would obviously rent an apartment at first, but would eventually be looking to buy. I just want to make sure we can actually afford a house in the area someday. What is the average price of a house? Do any houses in decent condition with 3 or more bedrooms sell for less than $125,000?

You'll have a hard time finding something in Cary at that size for that price. Wake County is pretty big...do you know which school you'll be at yet? If you get a job at a school in Rolesville, then you would not want to live in Apex, for example. That would be almost an hour drive. I'd find out as soon as possible exactly which school you're teaching at. That said, in the meantime you could aim for a central location within Wake County. South Raleigh and Garner are much more affordable than Cary.

How does year-round school scheduling make more classroom space for students?
How does year-round school scheduling make more classroom space for students?
In Wake County, NC, there is a big controversy over moving as many as 23 schools to the year-round scheduling in order to increase the number of students that can be accomodated without building quite as many more new schools. How can that type of scheduling make more room? It seems to me that 1 kid=1 kid no matter when they attend.

Basically, three-fourths of the students (and teachers) will be at school at any given time while the other one-fourth will be on vacation. The students will be in school for 45 days, then have 15 days of vacation. So, for example: Day 1-15: Class A is in Room 1; Class B is in Room 2; Class C is in Room 3; Class D is on vacation. Day 16-30: Class B is in Room 1; Class C is in Room 2; Class D is in Room 3; Class A is on vacation. Day 31-45: Class C is in Room 1; Class D is in Room 2; Class A is in Room 3; Class B is on vacation. Day 46-60: Class D is in Room 1; Class A is in Room 2; Class B is in Room 3; Class C is on vacation. This way, four classes can fit in the space that would normally be occupied by only three classes.

In year round schools, teachers rotate rooms. So, a population of the school is always on an extended break on a rotating schedule. So, when those kids are gone, a new group comes in, then when that group is done with break they take over another room completely... I hope that makes sense.

I want to pay my ridiculously high (and unfair) school library fine in pennies, but they won't let me.?
At school the library fined me for my book after the teacher had collected it before the winter break (our brilliant teacher forgot to turn in the books) and the fine went up a little bit each day well now (about a month later) I got a notice saying I owe about $10. So I went to pay the fine and since I was mad I got the money in pennies, took them to library and they would not accept them. In fact they told me that I had to pay using the largest bills and coins possibly to make it easier for them. Is this not legal tender issued by the U.S. ? This is Wake county schools in North Carolina if it matters. Q=try handling the situation like an adult ? A= I'm not an adult so I don't have to If pennies are not technically legal tender could I at least pay it in some other form of coinage (nickels, dimes, quarters, half dollars) ?

Answer 6
I'd give them the pennies and say they are legal tender and if you don't take them, legally you are forgiving this debt, and leave. Your teacher is responsible, why don't your parents go bitch her out?
2010-02-10 19:56:52
Answer 7
I would tell them you either take these or you're getting nothing. I am a jack*** like that.

Answer 8
Regardless of the pennies status as legal tender in the US, the fact remains that the library is under no legal obligation to accept your 10.00 payment in pennies. They are well within their legal right to ask for the largest bill possible to make payment, and to continue to allow the fees to accrue while you grow up and go get a 10 dollar bill. Your beef is with your teacher, not the library.

While the school system has a shortage of teachers, I doubt they're having that much trouble finding clerical workers. Maybe you'll have better luck once you move...I'm guessing they prefer locals so that they can interview in person and start right away.

My son is having problems in the wake county schools (raleigh, nc). The teachers get frustrated with him and write up for things that he can't control. The school has labled him in a negative way. His rights have been violated in many ways. There is alot more going on and we need to find representation fast. He is being discriminated against, mentally abused as well as neglected.

You should look at your states bar association for a list of lawyers. For example: Illinois State Bar Association http://www.illinoisbar.org/ has a link to http://www.illinoislawyerfinder.com/ Which you can search "Select a Field of Practice = DISABILITY". Do the same kind of search or call your local library. They will know where to look.

Which school calendar would you prefer for your kids?
Which school calendar would you prefer for your kids?
Traditional - Goes to school from late August to early June Multitrack Year Round - Goes to school all through the year and they track out every 9 weeks for a 3 week vacation. Some Elementary Schools & Some Middle Schools here in Wake county run on MultiTrack Year round and others run on Traditional. All high schools here run on Traditional.

There are lots of factors. But I think I'd prefer Multi-track. I student taught in such a district. There was less absenteeism for family holidays since you could plan that winter trip to Disney around a break. Kids did not fall as behind during the summer and kids of working parents did not have that long-haul at summer day care. There was still plenty of time for some of those lazy days of summer - but kids were also able to take that ski trip, that trip to the fall leaves, etc. w/o missing school. The little bit lost after 3 each weeks was more than compensated for by not losing as much over the summer. Many families were able to plan non peak-season vacations at a much cheaper price. And - as a note - a lot of cycle or track schools have a "double break" for summer where kids are off for 6 weeks over the summer. The day care centers adjusted their schedules to accommodate kids that were on cycle breaks. And it saved the School District money because they were able to handle overcrowding by having 1/4 of the students out of the building at any given time - which meant more money for programs. I'm a strong proponent.

if i ever have kids, i would send them to a traditional school. while multitrack schools have certain advantages, i wouldn't want my kids to miss out on certain opportunities like going to camp, hanging out at the pool with their friends all summer, getting a summer job, etc. and basically summer vacation. multitrack also makes scheduling more difficult for parents, especially if both work. plus if the schools did go multitrack, they would have to make some major modifications including air conditioning, which can be costly. and why would any kid want to sit it a classroom when there is a beautiful day just outside the walls?

Why Wake County families want to send children far from home for diversity?
Why Wake County families want to send children far from home for diversity?
Wake Co (NC) is very enflamed right now over the school board ending bussing policies to create diversity. This method has been ineffective since the 70's. I wouldn't want to send my children far away to make their bus ride longer. Isn't best the children be close to home, easy to pick up in case of emergency? It seems unfair to parents who plan/work hard to be in specific school zones to force their kids to schools farther away. Diversity will happen naturally. Low income couples can prevent their children from low income area schools by delaying starting a family until they are financially established. Everyone is equal so why would it be hurtful being in a school even if most people are your own race? How can this be fair to everyone when only certain children are bussed and not others? Do people really believe this will help the children?

it isn't about the children. it never is. it's about politics pure and simple. dollars. votes. lines on a map. diversity will never happen naturally. it never does. and some of us are glad of that fact. low income couples will never delay starting families. they never do. for some, it is a means to become more financially established, because for each child they have, they get more money and benefits. for the rest, it's because they weren't taught at home to keep their pants on until they could support themselves and a family and this isn't a problem just for wake county. we have our own, similar problems in the triad just west of you. it is always best for the children to be closer to home, going to school in their own nieghborhoods.....but, tell that to the low income parents who think their children are losing out on or being slighted or somehow 'missing' something because they didn't get to go to my children's school......while my children were forced to go across town and to a much less equipped and prepared school, simply because some minority parents thought their children were missing something we have. it isn't the school that makes the child. it's the parents and the kind of examples they are given at home, not the school that determines whether these children are successful in life or not. not whether they were forced to go to a 'better' school or not. my children were honor students at the school in our nieghborhood, and when forced to go to a school in the middle of town which has a bad reputation and dismal graduations rates, they still remained honor students. it isn't the school, the nieghborhood or the children. it's the parents, who expect someone else to do the parenting for them, and the politicians who do as they have to to continue getting the minority vote, who keep perpetuating this problem. and to be sure, everyone is NOT equal. the statistics don't lie.

Public schools in Wake county are losing money and tax payers and will it make learning harder for kids? Will this make it difficult for them to get jobs in 15-20 years? And if I have a child in a few years, what if he/she can't get a good education due to an awful economic crunch?
