What assessment can I use to prepare my child for kindergarten?
My son is four and in pre school. I want to make sure that we are preparing him with the necessary tools to be successful. We are preparing to enter the Wake County school system and need to know the requirements.

If this is a public school, they really can't hav any "requirements" other than age-eligibility. They have to accept all children age-eligible. But we love that you would like to help prepare your child. Having him in preschool will be a tremondous help. Experiencing this social setting, being with peers, having to take responsibility of self, becoming more independent is so beneficial. With the standards in Kindergarten now, it's almost necessary for the child to be up to par in the social-emotional development area before they can truly learn what is being taught. As for cognitive development...I suggest you get onto your State's Department of Education website and download the Kindergarten standards. Now, understand that these are what are expected by the end of Kindergarten so you just work your way toward these goals. The more he has experienced the quicker and easier it will be for him to master the concepts in Kindergarten.
