Another liberal judge makes anti freedom decision...your thoughts?
A North Carolina judge has ordered three children to attend public schools this fall because the homeschooling their mother has provided over the last four years needs to be "challenged." The children, however, have tested above their grade levels รข€“ by as much as two years. The decision is raising eyebrows among homeschooling families, and one friend of the mother has launched a website to publicize the issue. The ruling was made by Judge Ned Mangum of Wake County, who was handling a divorce proceeding for Thomas and Venessa Mills. A statement released by a publicist working for the mother, whose children now are 10, 11 and 12, said Mangum stripped her of her right to decide what is best for her children's education. The judge, when contacted by WND, explained his goal in ordering the children to register and attend a public school was to make sure they have a "more well-rounded education." "I thought Ms. Mills had done a good job [in homeschooling]," he said. "It was great for them to have that access, and [I had] no problems with homeschooling. I said public schooling would be a good complement." Mangum said he made the determination on his guiding principle, "What's in the best interest of the minor children," How could a judge make this kind of decision!!??! What is happening here!? He is also requiring the mother have a mental evaluation, she feels this decision is based on her being a conservative christian! http://wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=91397

"So why should the mother's wishes take priority?" The mother's wishes should take priority because it is status quo. In North Carolina, status quo takes precedence unless there is a compelling reason, such as abuse. These is no allegation of abuse or educational neglect. The judge in this case is ignoring NC law. Why should the lives of these children be uprooted even more than it already is? They have been homeschooling for four years and this should continue until there is a compelling reason for a change. The judge stated that the children should be sent to public school so the ideal of the mother can be challenged. That is not a compelling reason or judges could start pulling children out of private schools because the judge does not agree with the ideology of the school. That should send chills down the spine of every parent, that a judge could step into the family without a compelling reason.

This is a disagreement in a divorce case. You conveniently ignore the fact that the Father wants them to attend public school.

I personally do NOT have anything against home schooling however there may be more to the case than you state Maybe the father of the children objects to the mother homeschooling the kids and may have some anecdotal evidence that made the judge lean that way He should have a say in the matter also tough

We don't have all of the details here. It is safe to assume that the father wanted the children in public school, as judges will rarely if ever go against the wishes of both parents without clear reason to do so. So why should the mother's wishes take priority?

Why is that liberalism? I think he's just a foolish judge who missed the mark here. I don't see anything political in his poor ruling. As others have noted, you make no mention of the father's side of the story in this divorce proceeding. If he was pressing for the children to be put into public school, he could be doing so on grounds of the children's social development...of course, I don't know that based on the snippet here, and nor do you.

Firstly, World Net Daily isn't a credible source. It's an extremely bias website for radical Christians. Second, the article is poorly written in that there is no detail given in how the judge perceived that the parents were doing a disservice/harming their children (that would be public record). Third, the point of the article is to paint Christians as victims (yet again. Christians are always painting themselves as victims). Anyway, great way to cause hysteria but your article has no merit except to incite Christian hatred toward the secular.

the judical system is not an exception to the wrongful actions of people put in office to uphold the constituion of our country. even the supreme court judges are acting according to their political side. Looking at the list of supreme judges they are helping Obama destroy this country. They are all condoning his lies and abetting him in hiding his shady past and his records. they are denying cases against obama to be heard. the law states everyone has the right to be heard in the court of law but they are changing the law to suit themselves. There is one judge so far willing to hear cases but is being hard balled by the ones in obamas hip pocket. such deceit in this country is so ocverwhelming I see no future free america unless there is a drastic turn around soon. I fear to think what is in store for the younger generation, what is left behind for them.will they afdopt this way of living as the only thing they know? Is this the change Obama promised us. If so we are all to blame to allow one man to destroy what our founding fathers worked so hard for. Bidden is spouting out more bs as he says this borrowing and spending will not be for a long period. Of course not it 's not going to take long to spend everything we have. the country is changing fast and no one seems to notice. if they do they are going with the flow. seems only yesterday i felt safe and was doing ok. I woke up to a night mare of feeling on edge not knowing what this man was going to do to make even worse what he has done so far. I feel as if I.m living in another country.maybe it will be sooner than we expect.
